Prólogo
En sexto lugar, Natalia González, con el estudio de caso “Deserción estudiantil: el caso de la carrera de Inglés
como Lengua Extranjera de la Universidad Técnica Nacional, sede San Carlos (2017)”, evidencia los resul-
tados de una investigación desde un enfoque cualitativo, la cual tuvo como objetivo establecer estrategias de
prevención a partir de la identificación de los factores más recurrentes que se asocian con la deserción del
estudiantado de primer ingreso de esta carrera. Dentro de los resultados se destaca que, el aspecto laboral y
económico influye en la deserción de los aprendientes y se proponen una serie de estrategias para solucionar
esta situación.
En sétimo lugar, Alberto Camacho Ríos, con la investigación bibliográfica “Estudios de Metrología Antigua:
otra cara del espacio-tiempo” expone la utilidad del uso de una metrología antigua en la determinación de la
magnitud del arco de meridiano que comprendía la región egipcia hace unos 3000 años a. C. Los elementos de
esa metrología se encuentran presentes en las magnitudes de monumentos importantes como la Gran Pirámide
de Guiza y los templos ubicados en el sitio arqueológico de Teotihuacán. En ese sentido, se describe el sistema
de medición utilizado por ambas culturas, así como los sistemas numéricos en juego.
En octavo lugar, se ofrece la recensión del libro Desarrollo de proyectos de innovación con Design for Six Sig-
ma, del autor Edwin Garro, cuyo propósito principal consiste en proponer un método para mejorar la ejecución
de proyectos de innovación. La base principal de ejecución es el ciclo DMADV (Definir, Medir, Analizar,
Diseñar, Verificar) de DFSS (“Design for Six Sigma”). En menor grado, se utilizan técnicas de “Design Thin-
king” para entender mejor al cliente y así diseñar productos, procesos y servicios mucho más enfocados con sus
necesidades y se enfatiza en el trabajo de equipo.
En noveno lugar, se presenta otra recensión del libro, Making Classrooms Better 50 practical applications
of Mind, Brain, and Education Science, la cual es presentada por Álvaro Cedeño. Dicha obra versa sobre la
importancia de abordar el tema del aprendizaje en el aula desde un nuevo campo científico interdisciplinario,
la ciencia de la mente, el cerebro y la educación (MCE). Su contenido desemboca en 50 buenas prácticas, que
han sido reconocidas como eficaces a lo largo de años de práctica en el aula, pero que, ahora, encuentran expli-
caciones acerca de su eficacia con base en la neurociencia.
De esta forma, nos sentimos muy orgullosos del trabajo y la tenacidad de la doctora Pilar Zeledón Ruiz, coordi-
nadora de la Red de Innovación Académica y Directora de esta Revista, y de todo su equipo de colaboradores,
quienes realizaron un magnífico esfuerzo para publicar el segundo número de esta revista.
La palabra “Yulök” pertenece a la lengua bribri y significa buscar. Este vocablo se relaciona con el concepto
de innovación, porque implica realizar lo que sea necesario para que suceda algo diferente. De esta forma, la
acción de buscar se refiere a investigar, explorar, examinar, rastrear y preguntar. Tareas o ejercicios innovado-
res que procuran la resolución de problemas y que promuevan la mejora continua. Así, el significado de yulök
simboliza el carácter endémico de la innovación académica de la UTN.
Este carácter constante de la innovación representa un esfuerzo por encontrar lo que comparten los seres hu-
manos en las múltiples dimensiones de su existencia. Esta búsqueda permanente refleja el reto y el esfuerzo de
innovación académica que las universidades públicas de Costa Rica, en general, y en nuestro caso, con la UTN,
están obligadas a tenerlo como bandera académica fundamental.
Un esfuerzo de búsqueda permanente en el mundo académico requiere una verdadera marejada de innovación
que viene desde afuera, desde su contexto. Necesita los soportes internos en las universidades y en el sistema
educativo para ponerse a tono con el gran proceso de cambio que se está desarrollando en nuestro alrededor.
En la UTN debemos prepararnos para enfrentar la revolución educativa 4.0 o la cuarta revolución educativa que
estamos experimentando, así como se han enfrentado las otras revoluciones y cambios en el pasado.
