From the Garden of Knowledge: UTN’s Coming of Age and the Consolidation of Arjé

Abstract

On the occasion of the eighteenth anniversary of the Universidad Técnica Nacional (UTN) of Costa Rica, this editorial celebrates the trajectory of Revista Académica Arjé as an expression of the institution's commitment to research and knowledge dissemination. Founded alongside the University, the journal has grown from its origins to become an indexed, open-access publication, reflecting the collective effort of those who have sustained it with passion and dedication.

Drawing on Jerzy Kosinski's novel Being There, the editorial develops an organic metaphor: just as the protagonist interprets the world through the wisdom accumulated in his garden, UTN has cultivated its research capacities by carefully nurturing each academic initiative. Reaching institutional adulthood is not a final destination, but rather the moment to recognize that the roots — the values, perseverance, and vocation for service — are what sustain growth.

Revista Académica Arjé is positioned as a strategic instrument for promoting national and international scientific production, strengthening research culture, fostering academic excellence, and contributing to the internationalization of UTN.
